Africa Rising 2007

Bi-annually for its members and those interested in becoming a member ASAH organizes a symposium in which the African continent takes centre stage. It is called Africa Rising and focuses on the positive promising aspects and developments that take place in Africa. During this formal event several specialists provide insight into and share their views on specific realities that in their nature and size demand and deserve far more attention than popular media coverage currently delivers. ASAH acknowledges that for various reasons media coverage of Africa is distorted and holds selection biases but does not accept it. Instead ASAH aims to offer a different view of the African continent and its peoples; those living on the continent and those of African descent living elsewhere in the hope of helping students and others to become better informed and balanced in their opinions. One that is less influenced by dominant media convictions of Africa and her peoples. Everyone who is interested in Africa Rising is encourage to be a part of the audience or by any other means be constructive in realizing this event. Thus if you have a topic that you would want to see discussed or have suggestions on Africa Rising do get in contact with the ASAH board.
